A standard cable tester is a two-piece device consisting of a main unit and a remote terminator. The main unit generates test signals, while the remote unit is plugged into the far end of the cable. LEDs on both units light up sequentially, indicating the status of each wire inside the cable .

Test functions (what it detects):

Open Circuit: A wire is broken; the corresponding LED will not light.

Short Circuit: Wires are touching each other; multiple LEDs will light simultaneously or out of sequence.

Miswire (Crossed): Wires are connected to the wrong pins; LEDs will light in an incorrect order or indicate a crossover .

How to use:

Plug one end of the cable into the Main Tester and the other end into the Remote Unit.

Select Manual (step through pins one by one) or Auto (automatic scanning) mode .

Compare the LED sequence against the standard pinout.
